How can I find a DOI or URL for my reference?

Answer

To find the DOI of a resource:

  • Go to Crossref and click the metadata tab
  • Paste the article title in the search box and click search

If a DOI is not available, find a URL:

  • Search for the journal publisher on the internet (try a search like: Educational Researcher journal publisher)
  • On the publisher's website, look for a link to "Archives" or "Issues" and try to get as close to the location of the article as you can
  • Copy the URL for the reference

If the article cannot be found elsewhere, such as if the publisher no longer has a website, the reference ends after the page numbers.

Test your DOIs and URLs! Follow these directions if the article or resource is not recoverable.

Please note: APA has special rules for resources found in ERIC, as well as for dissertations in ProQuest and institutional repositories.
