How can I have journal articles read aloud?

Answer

Listening to an article in ACE OneSearch or EBSCO

If you find an article using ACE OneSearch or EBSCO, there is a “listen” icon provided in the record for that article (it appears as a pair of headphones in the menu bar on the top right).

  • On the ACE OneSearch results page, select the “Access Options” drop down
  • Choose “online full text” (which is the HTML version of the article) or “PDF” (The HTML option will highlight the text as it reads it.)
  • Click the “Listen” icon that looks like a pair of headphones
  • Click the “Play” button

The headphones icon is located on the top right of the screen, between the Table of Contents icon and the bookmark icon.

Listen to an article in ProQuest

If you find an article in ProQuest, only articles in HTML can be read aloud.

  • Select the “Full Text” (not "Full Text-PDF”)
  • Click the “Listen” link at the top of the article

The Listen button is located above the text of the article below the "Translate" link.

Download the article as an MP3

You can also download the MP3 and upload it to your phone or other device.
