How can I have an E-Book read aloud?
Answer
How to Have an E-Book read aloud to you:
Adobe Reader
- Downloaded PDFs can be read aloud
- Go to: https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/hub/how-to/how-to-read-pdf-aloud
Chrome Browser
- Chrome can read content like news stories, articles, or PDFs
- To use read aloud in Chrome, right-click on a page, and select Open in reading mode
- This opens the side panel, which has controls you can use for reading aloud
- Click the Play button
- You can adjust the voice, speed, and highlight style in the toolbar next to the Play button
Screen Reader
- Chrome offers many options for free screen reader extensions
- You can also download or purchase a screen reader and install it on your computer
- Change the settings to Text-Only Mode
Screen readers can only read text, so they will not be able to read a PDF. Switching to Text-only mode will read the text on each page but will not read any images – including figures and tables. When you choose text-only mode, you may miss some of the content on the page if it has been displayed in a graphic format, unless the publisher has provided alternative text explaining the image.
