How can I have an E-Book read aloud?

Answer

How to Have an E-Book read aloud to you:

Adobe Reader

Chrome Browser

  • Chrome can read content like news stories, articles, or PDFs
  • To use read aloud in Chrome, right-click on a page, and select Open in reading mode
  • This opens the side panel, which has controls you can use for reading aloud
  • Click the Play button
  • You can adjust the voice, speed, and highlight style in the toolbar next to the Play button

Screen Reader

Screen readers can only read text, so they will not be able to read a PDF. Switching to Text-only mode will read the text on each page but will not read any images – including figures and tables. When you choose text-only mode, you may miss some of the content on the page if it has been displayed in a graphic format, unless the publisher has provided alternative text explaining the image.
